10 things to avoid doing as a wedding photographer that get you in trouble & lead to mistakes

Some constructive criticism about this video. Give answers to the problems. Saying "avoid those types of situation" is silly. It's like saying if a Mormon knocks at your door asking if you've heard of their lord and savior, well just avoid that situation. C'mon, at least say what you'd say to get out of it.

Backstory; I needed new black dress shoes and bought some the night before a wedding I was shooting. They are like $180 shoes, so not super cheap ones. Anyways, I shot the wedding with new shoes that weren’t broken in, ended up getting a horrible blister on my heel that started bleeding and made even walking hard. I ended up wrapping my foot in duct tape (soooo not ideal, but it was all I had at the time) as a temp fix. Think about how uncomfortable it is the next day peeling duct tape off you skin… with a mega blister underneath! Ugh. Since that day I do two things: A.) I have those blister bandages in my camera bag, and B.) I wear Crocs (they are the black shoes crocs, not the clogs).

Though I am an amateur photographer I enjoy watching your video’s, because you have a very calm personality (as far as I can tell). Watching you is actually kinda relaxing for me, lol! Off topic: do you stil play in a band? You have any video’s of that?

Like your t-shirt 🙂 I was so lucky to have to photograph Kiss 2 years ago when they have a concert in my town. Weddings is some of the hardest i can photograph a good nr 2 is newborn.

First of all, as the photographer, your job, yes, your job, is to get the photos talked about weeks before the wedding. Yes, plan on shots that come up suddenly. If you have to wait for certain shots or their is an unexpected delay, go with the flow. When you met the bride and groom, you sat down with them and talked about what shots were needed and the time you would be working. If anything changed during the wedding, that was talked about beforehand. You are working, trying to do your best at getting the shots needed. Yes, you might be the one to keep the event going. Always be positive and pleasant with those you speak to. Your not anything, but a photographer with a job to do.
25 years later, if Aunt Esther isn't in any photos, you're the one who gets blamed. No matter the reason. Treat everyone's equals.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU, TO HELP YOU. I agree with everything said in this video.
Any photo assignment requires your attention. If, for example, you're shooting a football game, and you get distracted by the beautiful cheerleaders, and start taking their pictures, instead of the game, you will miss your assignment players.
Do your job. And only your job.

Great tips with some funny stories, luv the KISS shirt, 1st Rock Concert I ever went to actually. Too many years ago,,,,,,feeling Old!!!! At one of the few wedding I did for a friend a guest was stupidly drunk and people looked at me and said can you take a picture of so and so who is passed out on the floor, I politely said the Bride and Groom are my priority, I don't take those types of pictures.

Weddings…

The Maid of Honor should be the one to ask to help move the dress, The bride has a ton of things going thru her mind on her wedding day,
Giving the bride the "responsibility" as to where she wants it to be hung up for photos, should fall on you, No need to worry her about those small details.
Other then that, Your on point with your advice !

I avoid weddings at all costs.
