The column speakers are known to evilly spread the music in all parts of the room with no directionality or focus. When playing loud dance time music it's better to use box speakers in order to be able to direct the sound / volume focused into the dance floor area, where that way guests can get away from the loud music to visit with each other.

I just traded my Evolve 50s for two elx200 15 inch tops and 2 elx 200 18 inch subs. Oops!!! lol!!! 😂

If see column and battery powered for ceremonies. Columns speakers dont give u the same output as point source speakers

@danielholsemback5515 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

My question regarding the column speakers, is the output. Would you have to run a pair of them? That gets pricey.

Dude i think you made this shit up lol😂

Reply
@brothercode2488 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

That shit is stupid so they like a box sitting on the floor😂

I wanted to get these , but im un decisive. Would these be good for a wedding of maybe 200-300 people. And if so would i need to buy another sub or do the ones they come with have enough power . Wedding would be indoor

Coordinators be trippin talkin bout my speakers are ugly. Man if you don’t go sit down somewhere and enjoy the music😂

@mattomeara65 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

In 25 years of DJing I have never heard of anything so ridiculous in that a wedding co-ordinator doesn't like a DJs speaker setup!

Reply
@DJLiftOFF 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

Wow, didn't realize coordinators didn't like them lol. What are your top recommendations for column speakers?

You can’t go wrong with Columns paired with two 18 sub when doing weddings.

I don’t think a lot of people got what you were saying. I thought you said you personally have a big box/point source system for those events that require that. I definitely have that as well for the school dances etc… But I do mostly 100 and below functions most of the time, where evolve 50’s shine.

@DJBennyswift 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

Yeah after watching this, it’s confirmed that I would need to consider getting a set of column speakers

Point source speakers will never go out of fashion. This is because they fit the purpose they were made for and their function is still unrivaled as beautiful as column array speakers may look the average column array speaker still do not have the capacity of what the average point source speakers in addition to subwoofers can deliver. Furthermore, if you have events and even wedding events that have a head count of over 200, you will be better off using point source speakers with subwoofers. Now I understand that you may want to defer to the event planners but you have to remember it is still the clients that you ultimately have to please. And if the clients want a club like atmosphere then I'm sorry. Column array speakers are just not going to cut it. You will be needing to bring out either 2 12 inch speakers and 2 18 inch subwoofers or 2 15 inch speakers and two 18 inch subwoofers to create that club feel. I have the EV Evolve 50, RCF Evox J8 which i use for smaller events. However, for my bigger wedding and birthday events I am definitely bringing out my 2 QSC KW152 and 2 QSC KS118 and for even bigger events my 2 QSC KW153 and 2 QSC KS118.

The column speakers are for small event. You something that hits You have to get a top and separate sub. Them column speakers set ups are not on that level yet.

People complain about the cost of a good column system (like the G3), but a good top 12" cabinet is $800+ on top of a $1000 15" sub. Adds up about the same in my head.

I have EV 50s and pair of RCF J8s Way cool

@The1976Chad 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

Problem is, I do a lot of events that a column just isn’t going to get it done and the budget doesn’t support having both.

i have 3 different setups for <100 (10 in tops), 100-150 (RCF J8s) 150+ (15 in speakers + 18 in subwoofers)

@stuartpaul9211 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

don't do that many weddings. I have RCF j8s and just picked up some DB tech 12s. for general use im using the 12s, got fed up of dragging around the J8s. I have no drive way and most of the venues have steps and aren't easy load ins. the rockandloaders you Americans like would be just a waste of van space in the UK. my j8s seem to spend most of their time in the lockup now.

I retired the box speakers back in 2021. I use the Bose L1 Pro 16’s which sounds awesome!!!

column array booooooooo – ev50 at $1800per. ld 44 at $2800 per…. then your handicapped in bigger rooms or halls. maybe for top tier dj bookings, its cute…for the average mobile event dj, it just doesnt seem reasonable to get them just for aesthetics. at the end of day clients book based on being able to rock the party, value and price. wedding planners can say what they want. and im sure they love it, but ask clients which they care more about… price or speaker aesthetic. this would be the last thing i would upgrade, because there isnt anything indicating that its going to book me MORE gigs, or book at a higher price point. I would have to have my mortgage paid off first lol

Great video book! I have had the 44g2’s for almost two years and love them. I use them for probably 95% percent of my weddings/ events. If I have a huge wedding or a school dance I break out my rcf nxl 24 over 8004 system (still kinda looks like array with connecting pole) The wedding planners and couples in Massachusetts expect the look of the columns and regular speakers kinda make you look budget or amateur. Keep it pushin bro!

Wath about the hk linear 12 2000 wats or the jbl pro Column

@DJ_V_squared 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

5:23 I use the turbosound ip2000s v2 which is another affordable option.

Reply
@djmostyles 3 October 2024 - 12:52 pm

It's only a thing because we now have other options. I just added the ld 28 G3s to my lineup, and all i can say is, wow. Not only do they look better, but the performance is ridiculous. Ld nailed it. Cant go wrong with the 28 g3s or the 44s

Great points about the advertising. DJs debate about how columns sound but couples don’t, they’re easier to setup and the aesthetics are much better! Im definitely looking to get a column setup

I have permanently changed to column array speakers I have thr JBL prx ones. They are light and easy to transport and can easily cover 150 or less guests without extra sound reinforcement.
