Did you start with weddings or did you do party planning first?? I know they are kinda the same thing. I guess I mean the hospitality industry and birthday parties

Wedding Planning has been a dream of mine for years now. Here in Germany certificates and bureaucracy is very important but wedding planning is not a specific apprenticeship so you can get licenses but they will never truly be „official“. My plan now is to do my hotel apprenticeship and learn whatever I can about client relationships, contracts, liabilities and catering so that I can then use all of that knowledge when wedding planning xx

I like how successful people who have MULTIPLE degrees say college is a waste of time, if that was the case Musk wouldn't have multiple degrees and would have dropped out.🤷🏾

In regards to wedding planning certifications (I began doing one but stopped), i personally don't deem them necessary because it was stuff i prettyuch learned in my business class in college, and just invested in an amazing book that really breaks down wedding planning.

Um, Elon Musk went to 4 universities in South Africa, Canada, and the U.S. Musk eventually graduated with 2 undergraduate degrees in physics and economics from an ivy league (UPenn). He also completed two internships via UPenn in Silicon Valley. Last but not least, Musk only poaches top university students to come to work for him and most jobs at SpaceX require a bachelor's degree (Master's preferred). Let's not take life advice from someone who speaks out of both sides of their mouth AND supports Russian imperialism/colonization.

I planned my wedding on my own, way back when and was very successful in doing so. I then wanted to expand my knowledge in hopes of doing this professionally. I did my certification course online through QC Event and Wedding Planning (based from Canada). Like you mentioned, everyone is different. I appreciated the info that I did learn from it. BUT, you do not have hands-on training, you do not have the same prices across the country, you do not get real life experience from it. There are a ton of downfalls of the "education" on the subject.

For Jamie's Asian viewers, you have to go to college specially if your parents are the ones paying for it. Graduating college with a degree is one of the easiest ways to break in the industry specially if you're not from a well-off family. Specially if you're in a university that's very tapped into the industry wherein students are exposed to the industry even while they're still in the university. I think there's something to say about how the way Asian educational system is structured differently in a way that a student is geared to be prepped into the industry. Please atleast get a general hospitality degree or a specific specialization degree but within the hospitality degree. It is both a leverage and exposure in a society+industry that's competitive with huge population. And having it would be a flexible tool for you specially if the universities near you are low-cost or no tuition at all. 😂
The online information are still helpful as a tool and a guide but for our asian circumstances, going to college is an advantage.
Now if you live in the U.S. then take all of Jamie's words because that's the dynamics in the industry within the U.S. ❤

Thank you so much for your amazing videos. You are one of my online mentor. So related on this, some are not asking me directly but the look in the eyes says a lot to me as a wedding planner. I do learn from experiences and I don't have masters, formal trainings or schooling. I'd love too, but training are so expensive. But because of my words and experience my clients do trust me. I wish I could have at least one proper training. But at the moment you are my mentor. Thank you so much and keep going. 💙💙💙💪💪💪

For anyone interested…The Master Plan is one of the most generously priced "certifications" courses, I've ever seen!!! Jamie could easily charge 5× the amount or more because of her knowledge base & expertise!!! Her BIG Heart is priceless!!! 💜

Your parents seem really lovely! I respectfully disagree with your Dad…A college degree is about SO much more than a piece of paper! Also certifications & basic standards, criteria can be extremely valuable & liability protecting!

However, I've followed you for years & you're a phenomenal Wedding Super Planner & Super Human but you are unique!!! Not that online courses follow any standards…Professional Standards are important in many ways.

Lots of LOVE!!! 💜💜💜

"Education" is nothing but a test of how well people can memorize. A certification/degree is like a driver’s license…you have zero idea what you’re doing until you actually do it. Learn the basics online, buy books, learn by messing up. Consistent persistence and confidence will get you everywhere

You're absolutely right, you dont need a certificate. I started my business without one. I had already been in hospitality for years by that time. Although, I did get one. Through the local Community College, it counts as continuing education. Although I could plan a wedding and run it till the last minute, I didn't know how to make my business legit or what steps to take.

YES!! ❤ You are the reason I launched my wedding planning and coordinating business! I went to college for business and have learned more out of school than I did for 6+ years learning in school.

Depends on your school
Or where you received training —
But- absolutely not an overall scam to be certified – you do gather information and other perks by being certified- so I am happy that I did that for myself –
So- yes! I am a Certified Wedding Specialist of 40 years and continue learning every day- because this industry ever so revolves and changes –
Do you need that to be a Wedding Planner – no-
As with most any other services – hands on experience is the best learning experience – but – you do gain a lot of perks – so if one chooses to go through certification- go for it – If you choose not to -it’s not the end of the world – and you can be amazing !
Learn everything that you can !
I am very proud of my accomplishments and bring my best in all that I do!
