I wish guests would pay for the hotels. So much financial pressure on couples

New subbie here, thank you for this video! I am planning my destination wedding for 9/2023 and was given a room black rate which is identical to the resort’s online prices. I will pose the question you’ve suggested to the resort (thank you!). As far as paying the deposit, I planned to request a $100 deposit from my guests who wish to book and use the funds to pay the deposit. What are your thoughts on this? Any other creative ways to pay the deposit without using my own $? I don’t have the deposit $ right now but it’s 12 mos before the wedding and folks need time to pay for their trips so I want to secure the block asap.

Ty!

As a planner, I have been encountering two options when I reach out to hotels to reserve a block of rooms for my clients:
1. They offer a soft-hold on rooms that will fall off 30-60 days before the wedding if not booked. The clients don't have to put any money down, but do get a direct booking link with a 10-20% discount attached to pass along to their guests – most put on their wedding website. This way does not lock in any room rates & rates still fluctuate with the market.
2. A traditional room block. Typically the client has to put down a deposit of 25-50% which is refunded when the minimum number of rooms book. Typically this either gets clients a better discount, locks in current rates, or both.
Hope this helps someone!
