Awesome topic agree 100%
Photography is so much more than gear and poses
This is 100% spot on. Great photos of people come from being able to make them feel comfortable.
MetallicA!
🤘😎🤘
Great tips, man!
Great video as always Totally agree with everything you said. A bit like yourselves, I generally always have my wedding couples and clients tell me much fun they had on the day with me, and how they felt at ease. It's great when you're couple are outgoing and love a bit if banter. When you're all that comfortable with each other to the point that you can take the piss out of one other and have a laugh, that's when you're going to get the real genuine images. I find taking the piss out of the groom, just before you press the shutter is always a good trick for a genuine laugh shot! 😉
Customer service and providing a great experience is the name of the game first and foremost. havent had any situation yet since it has been only a year or so but hoping i will be able to avoid it as much as i can. Great information
Bang on! However, one needs to work it all the way through the session. I´ve had families with kids so reluctant to being photographed…and I always managed to get something out of them. Sometimes it´t really hard and you just want to leave but that´s not the way to take good photos of kids 🙂 What helps a lot- as you probably well know- is to have your wife there with you. Not only can she help with the lighting but the female element and skills can save a session. And she´s saved some pretty horrible sessions for me! 🙂
Not enough discussion on this topic, really appreciate your thoughts and observations.
The area I need to work on the most is the communication when I’m shooting, focusing on the shots while keeping the subject informed and the session light.
Great channel for sure
Great video. Yes – proof of the old saying that "first impressions count". I'm not even sure that it takes as long as 10 minutes.
Really helpful video, thank you so much 😊 also a belated congratulations to Sarah and yourself 🍾
I have that shirt, just without the cut shoulders
I find that clients can start out photoshoots with an expectation of how they think they're "supposed" to look. This can mean facial expressions, body movement, posing etc. As a photographer (especially working with amateur models or people that never have photos taken of them) your job is to work with the clients to create pleasing body language. However, some people are more inclined to ignore even the most persistent recommendations (that smile is a bit too big, don't hold your arms at that angle, you really don't need to pop your ass like that, whatever) and this can be frustrating. To combat this I think it's essential to take a quick break after about 10 minutes of shooting. Don't go over the photos you've taken, just strike up a conversation and make the client forget what they're doing. If you shoot the shit for a bit, get a smile out of them off-camera and have them feel like you're just hanging out it builds trust and allows you to get more authentic photos during the majority of your shoot time. It also helps you chill out if you're feeling worried you're not going to get the shot; don't forget the body language and mental state of the photographer is just as important as of the model.
First off, Happy Anniversary to you and your wife ! You are so right, it’s said that you only have one time to make a first impression. It’s amazing how much that you must have grown from your former years, you really get it ! And that is why you have a very successful business and relationship with those clients, everything that any of us do, first and for most we are in the people business. We must relate in a friendly and kind manner, and opening up to those people is the most important thing, because everyone wants to feel important but in reality we are all important no matter who we are, are what have done or what we are doing. I don’t have a business, but I have learned and still learning to try to be open and understand to others and I know that doing so at times is not always easy. Keep up the good work, your business has no roof, it’s wide open. Great video, thank you for sharing, the best to you and your family !
100% agree. I have found that this also applies to “street” photography. If you act calm, confident and can give a genuine smile it makes taking pictures of strangers so much easier. This is also why it is so important to master your gear – get the gear out of the way so you can just focus on making that human connection.
Great video! BTW, poison ivy can spread lots of ways. Sounds like in your case the oils spread from your clothes to your hands, then to your face. Use apple cider vinegar to stop the itch.
Absolutely agree 100%. I’m the same at weddings. It’s like a work mode kicks in and you suddenly become outgoing and fun with people you don’t know, which isn’t how I usually am day to day. Being relaxed and having some banter makes the couple feel more comfortable around you and your job is so much easier.
Great video and great shirt! Those are some great tips. I would love to see some clips of your photoshoots, sometime in the future. As someone who is just started out professionally I'm definitely struggling with putting people at ease. At my last senior session I brought some music and played and that helped the young man loosen up.
Superb video. This is probably the most useful video I have watched in years. Thank you 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the video will!
Killer video once again. I definitely need to work on this as I have a hard time relaxing and get anxiety
Oh dude… I'm just getting over poison ivy in the same places on my face… plus in between all fingers and arms. F'n blows man. That's what I get for doing yard work and not taking photos lol. Great video and advice bru!
Hope you guys enjoyed this video and got some good info out of it. Id really like to hear your thoughts and stories surrounding this topic because I never hear anyone speaking about this! – Will
