HOW I USED CREDIT CARD POINTS TO TRAVEL FOR FREE | Honeymoon Vlog (Bonus Video)

I paid absolutely nothing for my honeymoon — because I used points that I redeemed for miles. Here is the best credit card system we used to book our free flights to Asia.

Ohhh… you can have both cards? That simplifies my choice. Thanks!

You should’ve referred him to the CSP and gotten 10,000 extra points!

Not sure if anyone else has asked this but how long did you wait between applying for both cards?

I didn't mean to offend you, I'm sorry if I did it. But, using credit cards is like playing with fire, at some point you're going to get burn. That's why there are millions of people struggling with credit card debt.

What everyone here doesn't get, is that how you're in big debt unless you can pay off that initial $4000 in the first month. According to this video, they went in major debt. Free sounds good until you can't apply for a mortgage because your credit score is hurting massively.

This video was super helpful. Glad to hear you were able to honeymoon FOR FREE and leaving your wedding in helicopter is badass 🙂 In any case, I was curious to see if you have considered upgrading your Preferred to a Reserve card through Chase. I was reading on Upgraded Points earlier that you get 3X instead of 2X the points on travel purchases and there are some other cool perks like Priority Pass / Global Entry membership included. I know the annual fee is high but it seems to pay for itself in travel credit. In any case, what are your thoughts on this upgrade?

I so glad you added that you pay off your balance every month. I also travel hack, and credit cards are a part of it. I pay it off every month. I tell people that if they do not trust themselves to pay it off, don't even attempt to do it. It takes a financially responsible stable person to do this.
I will typically book my flights & hotels through Expedia using my points card. I'll also plug in my SPG member number and FF miles number when booking. I imagine the other travel sites have this as well.
Sooo, for one trip booking I get
1. SPG hotel points
2. FF miles with my participating airlines.
3. My Credit card travel points
4. Expedia points (to redeem on air, hotel, car etc)
I also use my card for every single monthly expense I have. Car, house, food. Not a dime in interest because I pay it off.
Happy travelling and congrats on the marriage!!!

so  what do you think  about  the  venture cards  both  the  higher card 2 miles per dollar spent  and venture 1  1.25 miles spent?
to me  the Freedom  is  a cash back card  while  the  sapphire cards are travel  with  the venture cards?

@MrIwillFlyThere 7 October 2024 - 2:16 pm

How easy was it to transfer points from his card to yours? I have a friend who's transferring me points to my sapphire reserve. I also have the venture card but chase points are higher value. My venture card is collecting dust now! LOL I'm in ATL also, and that route that u guys took seems like something I might try!

Yo Ashley

Thanks for the video, and how about the hotel part?

@itsehsanh 7 October 2024 - 2:16 pm

Ashley youre so beautiful! I'm also in the travel hacking game. As I'm sure you know, the Sapphire Reserve is out. You guys could both go for it, and re-do this entire trip and much more easily this next time (I have it!). Theres just so many options for financially responsible people, haha

P.S. also been to both Bali and Hong Kong, both nice places! 🙂

I use points all the time from flying, however with me I have zero intention of getting a credit card, mainly because I'm quite irresponsible with money. I have a MasterCard debit card that amasses Qantas Frequent Flyer points, plus my local supermarket gives Qantas points and I also do surveys to earn qantas points as well. So on average I earn about 1000 points every 2 months and I generally use the points for free flights or a points plus pay. Qantas recently made it harder to earn points by flights and also how to redeem on flights which is frustrating

Way to use your airmiles, dang it takes forever to rack those up. Your wedding dress is lovely! IT's almost worth considering getting a new credit card, especially when everything you buy overseas runs as credit any way. Sorry for taking so long to comment I've been trying to work around the comment error I've been getting.

We started doing this to rack up miles, but in the end the deal we had wasn't a good enough one and spending thousands would get us like $100 worth of flights, lol. And I didn't want to keep taking out lines of credit. (Plus I'm not so good at paying my balance off all the time 🙂 ).
It definitely seems like the points aspect of travel hacking is best in the United States!

Great travel hack tip for getting free flights! I can't convince my husband to do that though lol Our current card gives us cash back on every purchase but we take it and put it in our savings. We also pay off our card on a weekly basis so it's always at $0. Can't wait to see your weekly videos!!!
