I personally wouldn't spend money on accomodation for guests. Most weddings guests to sort overnight accomodation themselves. Free drinks at bar are more appreciated imo.

Sian do you mind me asking what you did in terms of stationary in the end please? Did you do invites in the end? or menu / order of the day etc. Thanks xx

This is crazy – I work in a weddig venue and just venue with nothing included is £18K, catering for 100 people would be around £15K!

Just FYI our videographer was £1,750 so a lot cheaper than you mentioned & she also had cheaper packages! Think she started at around £1,400 ♥️

Highly recommend wed2b!! I had a terrible experience at my first boutique being a UK size 16 most dresses at the boutique couldn't even fit over my hips and yet they expect you to spend £1500 on a dress that needs alterations.. there's so much choice at wed2b and you buy one off the rack which fits you and doesn't need alterations. The wed2b consultant had so much expertise and she built up my confidence so much. I did end up going to another boutique and went for a designer dress in the end but I loved every dress i tried on at wed2b

We saved so much money by purchasing things when suppliers had deals on. For example we booked our band at a wedding fair and the were offered a reduced price so saved £200, we bought our cake when they were offering a deal for Black Friday so the voucher saved us £300, we made some diy things for our decor and I made my own centre pieces for tables using old apothecary jars and old books from eBay (we are having a vintage literary theme). I also made some of our stationary myself which saved hundreds of pounds. I also bought my wedding shoes from quiz when they had a sale on so only cost me £16 which was amazing. I got my bridesmaids to pay for their own accessories since I was paying for their dresses. We did splash out on other areas that were important to us like kilts and dresses, rings, and flowers.it’s your day and you are entitled to spend whatever you want to have your dream wedding. People will always have an opinion on what you’re spending but at the end of the day it’s your wedding not theirs.

You will definitely save a lot by not doing paper invites you would be surprised how costly they can be! We didn't have a videographer but my uncle offered to video for us. We let him because he wanted to and we really didn't expect much from the video but it was so lovely to see. If you can ask a friend to video the ceremony and first dance on their phone just because they are such lovely moments to look back on 😊

£25,000 😯 then there’s me trying to get married for as little as possible. No way on earth I could afford so much.

Definitely recommend a videographer I didn’t have one booked until the week before my wedding because I couldn’t stop thinking about it! & it was worth every penny and the best thing we had, we’ve watched it so many times & it really allows you to relive your day much better than the photos!! Xxx

From one military wife to another make sure your wedding insurance is for military to cover Ash's uniform and just in case he gets leave cancelled etc!! I know we hate to think about it but we all know the Military!

Congrats for your upcoming wedding and hope all is going to plan. We got married 4 years ago and decided to do everything ourselves. A lot of work but well worth it. Decorated church, venue, bouquet & button holes, made our cake (4 tier). If you are going to do your own flowers check out Triangle Nurseries. They supplied all our flowers and I could not have been more pleased with the help and advice they gave. Yes it's a lot of work when sourcing stuff but can save a lot too & very satisfying too. Good luck.

Weddings are so ridiculously expensive! I still cannot believe that I managed to keep mine in my £10k budget 5 years ago! I personally wouldn't pay for guests accommodation though as you are spending a fortune on a massive party where they are going to enjoy great food and drink paid for by you. I can guarantee they will not mind paying for their own accommodation and it will save a large amount of money that could be used elsewhere or just help keep your budget under £20k.

You will need people's addresses to send out thank you cards later. Believe me, getting addresses now will save you a headache later!

I got my dress for wed2b and loved it but I did need alterations because obviously they are just off the rail. I would allow at least £100 for that just Incase. But I love the fact you can spend as long as you like in there you just have to wait your turn and only try on 3 dresses at a time

If you do go for a wedding cake m and s do them and they are a lot cheaper! Also I reckon hair and make up will be more if you’re paying for you and your bridesmaids – bridal make up can be nearly £100 just for the bride!

Might be worth adding in alterations for your dress, possibly between £50 and £400 depending on what needs to be done, I got my dress from wed2b and needed the straps shortening, taking in a bit, and taking up and I think it was around £170. Wed2b is great though and has a good selection and they don’t feel budget!

We did our whole wedding for around £6000 but our venue was £600 plus tables and catering (which were £200 and £900).

For decoration, we collected loads of jam jars and had loads of baby breath in them up and down the tables. We did pay for a local florist to sort as we didn’t have time and she did the tables, flower girls head bands and baskets, bridesmaids bouquets, buttonholes and my bouquet for £250! But we could have definitely done the tables and bridesmaids one ourselves and saved probably £150 there.

Photos, video and rings are the only things you'll keep forever from your wedding. We added a videographer last minute and it was honestly the best thing we did ❤

For your cake you could watch videos and self teach it's normally just four round cake bases and white fondant with decorative pieces could save alot and check charity shops for anything you need before purchasing you would be surprised what they have 💜💜

Also for the video videographer I didn't want to pay loads either. Got a relative with a go pro to go around making candid videos and messages. Was lovely to watch back after not seeing/remembering lots of things. Was free and funny. Maybe consider that (or a student videographer who charges cheap?) I get you won't watch it loads, but I love I have the option if I want to jog my memory or watch back with my son when he's grown x

My friend had a cheese cake for the same reason. Honestly she says she regrets it. Family (especially the kids) were looking forward to a cake (many didn't even like solid cheese) and it hardly got eaten. Plus it got a bit whiffy towards the end of the night 😆 maybe get cupcakes for those who won't eat the cheese? Cheaper than a cake and you don't have to tell the baker they're for a wedding so they don't buck up the prices x

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Ours is in 45 days and my spreadsheet is my bible! Just a few things you might want to consider (caveat that I'm in Canada so maybe things are different in the UK): look into the terms of your insurance. Some insurance policies require you to buy them within a limited number of days of your first wedding purchase. So you may have to buy it ASAP so it covers the venue and other things you've already purchased. For the wedding dress, don't forget to factor in alterations. Those can really cost a lot. My dress is super simple but just hemming and adjusting the straps is costing me $300. You should also add a line item for "extras." Like you say, there's so many ways to go over, things costing more, tips, taxes, paying for trials, etc. So I would factor in like 10% for extras just so you're not surprised when you go over. We're doing a very small wedding and were aiming for $3-5K but it's looking more like $6K+.

Hi!! Congratulations on getting engaged :):) such exciting times! I saw you mentioned about getting flowers from wholesalers. I did the same for my wedding and I think I only spent about £400 on flowers for 15 centrepieces and ceremony decor! There’s a flower wholesalers that you can visit in Colchester called D Byford & sons. They were great and have an amazing selection and great quality 🙂 if you want any photos of the flowers I had for my wedding then I’m happy to share! Xx

We got married last year, should have been in May but the pandemic (duh!) – we haven't actually added up what we spent…awful really as I'm an accountant! But the quotes we got from caterers etc were very similar to yours. We did a few bits 'on the cheap' – invitations and on the day stationary I printed with paper purchased from The Range – also Hobbycraft do great wedding things like little stamps and bits super cheap. Bridesmaid dresses were from TFNC via ASOS – highly recommend, think they were around £50 each and the quality was actually fantastic. They were long so they just wore their own shoes because you couldn't see them anyway and then they were comfy. We weren't sure about a cake either but we had Colin the caterpillar cakes and a doughnut wall which went down a treat when we wanted a late night naughty snack! Super cheap and easy but something everyone liked!

You very similar ideas/vision that I had for my wedding- a very different budget! We had 120 people to the day and did the wedding for less than 10k (including honeymoon)

I got my dress from wed2b and just found a seamstress to alter it. We found a florist to do the bouquets and button holes, but we too got the rest of the flowers from wholesalers. We then collected loads of jars (jam jars etc) bought hessian and ribbons to decorate them and then placed the flowers in there. Got a friend to do me a wooden log/plate for each table and placed the jars on top. Looked lush. It was then nice to offer each quest a jar of flowers as they said goodbye- people commented about being able to look at their flowers in their homes over the following days to remember the wedding by. I still have some jars around my home that I use now as tea light holders ect. X

Maybe consider a less popular videographer and therefore cheaper one. We had one for our wedding 2 years ago for £250 covering ceremony up until just after the first dance and love watching it on our anniversary so wouldn't want to miss that for the world..alternatively ask family and Friends if they'd be willing to take clips in turns so no one is overwhelmed which then could be edited together?
