My fiancé and I thought we would be getting a small nice and simple wedding.
Then we put in all the numbers and realised it was going to cost a hefty 20k.
We found a really cute venue that is slightly over budget but needs almost no decoration, and now we are trying to save on as many things as possible.
Hopefully we can get nearer to 15k.

I wish so badly I had £20,000 or £25,000 for my wedding.
I was astounded this was the uk average and have always said that’s just plain crazy and I could never spend that much!

…Fast forward to actually looking into planning a wedding…
I totally understand how people spend that much because WOW it’s pricey as hell!!
I don’t think you can get just a venue and catering for less than £5,000 or realistically £10,000 if you have 40-50 guests and want to do a proper sit down 3 course meal.

Dresses are extortionate, usually with a four figure price tag!
I don’t have the luxury of being an “average” size as I’m only 5ft tall and a size 20/22 so it’s unlikely I’d find a sample dress or second hand one as size 12-14 is the average.
Hoping to lose some weight for health reasons but I don’t want to rely on it or put pressure on myself!
My mums wedding dress is a size ten.
If I could fit into that I’d 100% wear it as it would be free but it’s not likely and also it’s not really my style.
Can’t even think about the dress situation yet anyway, it’s not that high on my priority list.

Venue, food and drink are the main ones and the staff to serve it and clean up.

I was hoping to do the whole thing for under £10,000 but it’s not looking realistic tbh 😩

How on earth does everyone get that kind of money?!
I earn £14,000 and hubby to be earns £28,000 and neither of us are prepared to take on any extra work to help save as we are exhausted enough as it is 🙈 we are planning to be wed in august 2024 but there’s no way we can afford to save £4-600 per month for 2 years to get £10-£15,000.

We don’t have any savings at the moment as he spent his on my engagement ring, the deposit for our rented flat and a laptop for work and I spent mine on a car.
We also both bought tickets to Australia to visit his family (he’s going to propose to me officially there) so we’re feeling really bloody skint and terrified now that gas and electric and petrol and everything else has gone up and our rent will be going up soon when our contract is up but we don’t know by how much and we love our place and we really don’t wanna have to move so that’s stressful 😩

We wanna save to buy a house as well although that seems rather impossible.
It’s literally cheaper to buy rather than rent but only if you have a hefty deposit to put down first… how can we save that when the majority of our income goes on our rent and bills?!
All our friends who have bought houses have wealthy parents so no doubt got a lot of financial help with it

We are desperate to get a dog in September as well (that’s why I work part time so I can be there to look after them and to keep up with the housework) so that will be an extra cost as well but it all depends on how much our rent goes up by because the landlord has done a lot of work on our flat since we’ve been here and it’s soooo much nicer but I think that means he will bump up the price by a good couple of hundred pounds per month at least 😔
If we have to move then a dog might not be possible.

Anyway this is hardly a wedding related comment anymore, I just needed a bit of a rant 😂

Life is so crazy expensive and stressful and I don’t understand how other people are surviving 🙈
Let alone managing to save money for a wedding! Typically engagements are less than 18 months as well!
We’ve got like 27 months and still haven’t got a clue how to raise that amount of cash!

I guess people use credit cards and loans and big gifts from family members but I can’t justify going into debt for one day and paying it off for years and Id feel guilty accepting money from our families – they don’t have much to give anyway and I’m sure they’ll be super helpful in all other planning aspects of the day so I don’t want to take their money as well as their time which I know they’d be happy to give.

I thought wedding planning would be soooo fun but I’m not even officially engaged yet and I’m already so stressed about how much it costs to have a “normal” wedding 😂 I don’t want anything too crazy or lavish so I thought I’d be alright but I can hardly even afford a “cheap” wedding 🙈
Aaaaaahhhhh

I found the budget quote difficult to do, we were all set and ready to sit down and make the budget and it went like this…. ok 1. Photographer- errr how much are photographers usually? Ok let’s skip that just now 2. Wedding stationery ermmm how much do invites usually cost?
It honestly took so much research to do the budget!
