I believe weddings historically were a way to show wealth please correct me if I'm wrong

We got married at city hall and then had a small reception at Mandarin with 40 of our closest friends and family.

I always like my life to stay humble, because I feel it’s the key to having a better marriage.

Thank you for sharing! The decision of disclosing the $ of your wedding is personal so I appreciate you doing this! You just got married, could you share the number soon? I just saw this luxury influencer who wants to “normalizing gatekeeping” their wedding finance and I’m like 🫨

You’re talking about the world’s most expensive venue though…lol most cities won’t charge you almost a million dollars that’s obvious. It’s A LOT but typically at 1/1000th the price it’s not fair to use the worst example, it’s already bad. I think they keep the prices purposely high since everyone wants to get married there and it’s meant to be luxury, if it weren’t too high then everyone would extra try to get married there. You could probably live at the Waldorf Astoria for that price 😅AND have the wedding of the year in NYC without approaching that…Just to give you a perspective, you can get married in and rent out the PALACE OF VERSAILLE for a fraction of the cost!

Most women have no concept of "If it is too good to be true it probably is" That is one of the reasons why women are single

I honestly think that white ppl and Asian culture is so much different. Asians are mostly homogenous so they need to differentiate themselves all the time by showing off with money and designer while white ppl are more open minded.

I’m planning my wedding in Florence with my wife and it’s only gonna cost us 100k for 40 guests. We did our homework tho and price checked every damn thing and it was honestly very tiring. We also had to fly out half a year ahead to meet with everybody involved.

I paid $55,000 in NJ for my 150 person wedding with the honeymoon 7 years ago. I negotiated prices and worked vendors down to save $4,000. Also made some of my own decorations.

Since I am very religious and wouldn't marry a girl who wouldn't want a wedding in an actual Catholic Church I would probably only do this for my wedding, not too expensive.

You must have a BFF, Telling you that a Marriage is the worst invesment you can make, Doesnt help on taxes and go figure, $122,000, for a 7 year buy. Then the divorce is going to cost 100X your marriage cost. So as you being a Financial Adviser, This is really bad advice from you. You can have a civil Partnership, and have Kids and be more happy, Love doesnt cost a dime.If you took that $200,000 and invested into a index fund, by the time you get divorced, it would be worth almost a Million $….without the marriage fees.

I used to work for an event rental company and the average cost of a wedding ceremony and reception is around $30k. But I’ve worked for couples that have spent $1 million on just rentals 😬 So there’s definitely a big range depending on how bougie you want to be.

I used to always tell the couples that they need to first figure out what are the MOST important factors in the wedding because that determines the budget they are or aren’t willing to spend for certain things. The easiest costs that most people can save money on is if you are using budget friendly alternatives to fancy invitations, wedding cakes, elaborate flower arrangements, and wedding favors. You can also limit the bar choices to fewer selections like wine, beer, and signature cocktails rather than an unlimited open bar to reduce costs. You can also be more strategic with music if you are willing to not hire a band or limit the live musicians and hire a good DJ instead. Also, guest count is a huge factor!

However, I would splurge on a responsive wedding coordinator, a wedding photographer/videographer, and really good food. But at the end of the day it’s your wedding and your choice on what you want to spend money on! ❤

When me and my now wife got married, we did as formality for my scholarship to help accommodate her too, for me going to Cambridge university. then we would have a proper wedding post-graduation but life gets in the way and decade with twins later we have yet to have actual wedding outside of Islamic wedding. Which was just a ceremony at home

THAT type of wedding is a scam… As is THAT type of proposal. Bet you're doing a pre-nup as well.

That is a prime example of a "please be impressed with our lifestyle and therefore our human worth" type event. Such events are for the audience not the newlyweds and are indeed an ACT and are no such indicator of the health or longevity of the marriage
