After learning how to tie a bow tie 🎀 after watching 25 different YouTube videos, I ain't going back to wearing long ties… I'm 60 years old and too stubborn to turn back now!

I am 75 and a retired librarian and university library administrator. I was in the college glee club, and I needed to know how to tie a bow tie, because we wore tuxedos. I was taught by a shy, blonde rich kid from Virginia and Maryland who loved to ride his horses and pined away for his family and farms. He showed my how to do it and I almost immediately, at the age of 21, started to appear in a bow tie. I gave all but the top two or three examples of straight ties to my son years ago. I have always found the bow tie makes a statement, and the first rule is, if you don't know you have the panache to pull it off, don't even try it. My rich friend succumbed to homesickness and left college at Thanksgiving time of his freshman year. He eventually became a great point-to-pointer in Virginia and Maryland, and died young in his late 50s of cancer. He was a real aristocrat and gentleman.

I have started to get into bow ties. Years ago I was given a pre tied sky blue satin bow tie which I still have but never really wear anymore. I currently have 3 others which I do wear. First is what I think is known as a Kentucky bow tie (bootlace bow tie). The one I have is black polyester but is much longer than other types of these ties I have seen. The second is a Donegal Tweed navy bow tie which I bought to wear when I am wearing dark blue waistcoats. The 3rd I bought recently is a cotton brown bow tie that is a high quality copy of a 19th century bow tie like you see in photos of men like American civil war officers and Abraham Lincoln wearing. I might get one in black as well at some point.

Preston's presentations are always stellar: to the point, informative and accompanied by a dash of wry humour. Thank you.

Love to wear bow ties, but mostly in the fall, winter and spring seasons. In the summer months, when you wear a coat, there is just to much open space between the top of your belt buckle and the bottom of your bow tie. In the colder seasons, a waistcoat or sweeter breaks up that space and looks good with a jacket. Just my opinion- Regards

If anyone has tried shopping for vintage self tie bow ties online, the experience is much like Preston's battle with the 1970s bow tie in this video

The batwing bow tie is called that because each end is the shape of an old-time cricket bat.

Has the Gentlemen's Gazette considered doing a video on American bow tie manufacturers? I'd love to see your reviews and to learn about some new brands. I have ties from Brooks Brothers, Beau Ties of Vermont, and R. Hanauer, but I'd love to learn about some new producers.

I just found your channel and I'm happy to see there are now 3 of you because men come in different shapes and sizes. You're very close to the shape of my husband so what you would wear looks good on him too…thanks in advance for the future help in my shopping!

Its interesting because, when I was younger, I was fully convinced the bow tie was a dead fashion. However, as I've gotten older I've seen them a lot more often than I would have expected, and they've actually worked very well for the wearer. They had a tendency to be associated with nerds in days past, but the men wearing them pulled off a sharp and clean look that surprised me!

I loved this video. I always wore the double and singles windsors growing up. But at age 30, about 5 years ago, I learned the bow tie. Now it’s what I wear everyday. I have been come great at tying them. I work in banking so it’s acceptable too. I feel weird eating longer neckties now. My wife even has made me a few of them. She has mad skill.

Hi
I am long time watcher, I was wondering if you could do a video on how to dress up for children.

Just an idea but a series where you judge other peoples or gentleman’s (either submitted or not) outfits and how they could possibly be improved would be interesting to see. But keep up the great work gents
Edit: I know about their review series but I was more or less meaning more or less gents or people trying to be gents now a days

I remember a high school friend showing me how to self-tie a bow tie for the first time, a gentlemanly skill that has served me well for decades. I currently wear a bow tie at least once every two weeks, and I have a sufficient collection, including a couple of vintage ties, to keep me from repeating most of the year. Bow ties are stylish, fun, and surprisingly versatile for a confident, well dressed man. Women definitely seem to notice an appropriate a gentleman sporting the right bow tie look. Thanks for this video and your other great bow tie offerings.

The clip ties are a necessary part of law enforcement and security jobs. You don't want to have a resisting suspect grabbing your tie and taking you down.

Well, to be perfectly honest in my humble opinion without being sentimental, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in distinct perspective and without condemming anyone's view and by considering each and everyone's valid opinion I honestly believe that I vividly don't have anything to say. In fact, i forgot what i am about to say. Thank You
