Germans wear their wedding bands on the left side. "Close to the heart". Single engagement rings are still somewhat uncommon, and only got more popular in the last two decades, because most germans use the ring that they got proposed with as a wedding band (and most often simpler bands are prefered).

I wore my engagement ring on my right hand on my wedding day and received my wedding ring on my left. Then put the two together later.

In Turkey, instead of gems, gold is praised the most. But gradually it is changed to the diamond because of the ads on tv and Social media. But still gold gifting is highly held on the wedding ceremonies. In Turkey, during the preperations of wedding groom and his family give at least 5 gold bracelets, a gold or diamond necklace set, a gold chain and five 35 grams of 22 carat gold pendants. These are the minimum gifts give to the bride. In some region it is up to kilograms of gold jewelery including gold belts. For 20 years, a diamond ring for the engagement on right hand and a golden one for the left hand are given. Before that only one gold ring was worn on the right during engagement, then same ringwas changed to the left hand on the wedding day. Also if there is an engagement ceremony is held, guests give money or gold jewelery to couple. And on the wedding day it is a must to give couple gold coins in different sizes, gold bracelets, etc. and money for every guest. Anyone can't go to a wedding without a present like I say. Big or small amount doesn't matter but it must be given. And the wedding lasts 3 days long.🎉🎉

My husband and I both wore engagement rings that we got made on Etsy out of floral wire. Neither of us wear wedding rings.

Hey, I'm from Poland and actually here ladies wear their engagement rings on the right hand and switch to the left to make room for a wedding band or stop wearing the engagement ring if it doesn't fit on the ring finger on the left.

Ok so let’s please get this straight in the USA folks lol. Women are not even supposed to wear theirs AFTER marriage. It was considered “tacky” to still wear post nuptials in an effort to “show off”. The tradition of the ring has lost all meaning. De Beers is the one that started this whole tradition after the Great Depression. Women in the USA prior to that didn’t wear them. No one could afford it for that matter. The tradition is technically that once the ring (if bought) is offered and accepted, the future bride wears it until the day of her wedding. It is then kept in trust in the home to be later given to her SON when HE gets engaged so that he doesn’t have to get into debt whilst starting a new life with his new bride. His family now keeps the ring until his son and so on and so on. If no son then the diamond ring could still be passed on thru a female relative but a son was more desirable and hoped and prayed for purposes such as this. DeBeers would be penniless if they weren’t able to trick hard working men to start BUYING them from their stores. If a ring could stay in the family for multiple generations then poof no profits. 💍🎁

I was told by a Vietnamese married couple that women & men each wear the wedding on different hands. In our mid eastern culture, we so do the switch hand thing, but BOTH women & men wear engagement rings. We liked the western idea of only women wearing engagement rings.

In Nigeria, the engagement ring is usually placed on the middle finger of the left hand and the wedding rings are also placed on the ring finger of the left hand. The engagement ring isn’t usually expensive because it is only worn till the wedding day.
