12:07 There are some things that are decidedly NOT fun to go out and buy in Europe (this is all from personal or family experience): necessary medications that are not sold there (including OTC, like Benadryl); large bandaids when you're bleeding profusely from a fall; good shoes in unusual sizes when your feet have developed plantar fasciitis from walking in bad shoes; feminine hygiene items; clothing in hard-to-find sizes. Do yourself a favor: Wear Crocs (they're rain proof, too : ). Bring a coupla pairs of socks for blister prevention. Don't wear flip-flops. Pack a few extra meds & first-aid items – they're small.

I can’t ! I carry my large backpack and a small luggage but I come back home with a second piece of luggage. I like art and gifts and souvenirs. I love souvenirs but I would travel with Rick Steves’ rules

How many times have you been wiped out by someone wearing a backpack ?… They turn around and wipe you out or knock you over……so irritating
Women prefer roller bags because a backpack strap over a bra strap is painful long term, and makes your arm ache and your hands go numbs. Men don't have that issue.
That money belt doesn't seem necessary in most parts of Europe. When that movie came up (7 years ago) theft was probably bigger problem. Last year I was in Italy and during a concert in Florence my friend has lost her wallet. Someone found it, gave to security and we get it back with all the money inside! – it was our 3rd day of travel of 11 day trip, there was quite a sum in there [at least for us, I think around 200 euros and 100 CHF]

my feet are difficult to fit, so i do take a second pair of shoes. Wear my walking shoes; "dress" sneakers in the bag. 😉

Im all fir packing light but i think there needs to be consideration for the size of the clothes. If im XXL i wont be able to fit as many items vs someone who wears xxs

Right on Rick! – I do use a roller bag – and a day back that I strap onto the roller (21.7/14/9). I don't usually check my bags – unless a suit and dress shoes are needed for a special occasion.
Yeah great point for travelling with kids. Bags get awfully big

Additional: rolling suitcases have a tendency to break due to the medival cobblestone streets and also what got mine broken was having to haul it out of a train with stairs. They tend to break right at the wheels, and the ones that break are the cheap ones from the China market or swap meet flea market. So there is probably the best reason why you should go with a carry-on backpack. If you do choose the rolling suitcase, make sure it's light enough to carry over the cobblestone or up & down the stairs of the train or trolley.
When you wash your clothes, wring them out as much possible, lay them out on a dry towel, roll them up and wring again. One item at a time.
A lot of shaming in this video. And as far as climate change, I have been traveling extensively for 50 years and find the weather no more or less unpredictable.

I just got into packing cubes. Since hotel drawers are not always clean, put the cubes into the drawer just to keep everything clean.
How do people on your tours handle traveling with CPAPs?
Its difficult to pack light for winter. Summer ? Easy peasy

Just completed my first trip to Europe at 61. Took a rolly 9x15x13 and a flexible day pack. For 8 days. I'm pretty happy with how I did. I brought two pairs of cotton pants, shorts, two natural fiber tees that canbe dressed up with jewelry or a scarf. I did wash up the pants, undies and tees in the sink, although some of my hotel had laundry. They came out fine. My tour was constantly on the move and I did not want to check a bag! The only thing I regret is not packing Neosporin, I got a small infection and while pharmacies are everywhere in Spain, they don't sell antibiotic ointment.

If you are washing your clothes in the sink, after you rinse and wring them out, put them in a towel, roll back and.forth and this will further dry the items even more. Less wet, faster dry. Thanks Rick! Just got your money belt for men to wear on waist and women to wear around neck, I wear mine around my waist and put it in my pants. Got the belts for my son and daughter-in-law. We are going to Cairo to see pyramid, cruise the Nile and go see the Red Sea. Can't wait😊 Happy travels to all!
Usually when I go to Europe it’s because of fashion shows and I checked two bags at 70lbs (first class it’s free) and a duffle, backpack and handbag as carryon. My husband did the same, and we took a train (had a private room) from Paris to London. It was cold and I had to pack for 3 different countries. Coats, shoes, handbags and of course strong outfits. For different trips I can get the checked bags down to 50lbs… if I don’t care about how I look I can do this though I think
