The problem of spending that much has nothing to do with DIVORCE. The problem is that you are trying to show off money you don't have. Weddings are just displays of wealth and none of that crap is essential. If you can afford it great. But for normal people, why are you starting a family already in debt. Money is a huge reason people divorce, you might want to start having children, or buy a home. A wedding is a PARTY. That's it. If you wouldn't spend $20,000 on your birthday, than don't try to live above your means at your wedding. If you really want a fancy dress or a fancy destination pick one. But be reasonable.

Weddings are man made stupidity. Make a vow before God, get a license and certificate. Spend money on a nice honeymoon and focus on your relationship. If you start your marriage with. Huge debt, you are already going to curse your wedding day.

It's crazy.. some of these weddings run over 25K! That's a down payment on a house! Americans have been suckered into the biggest scam of the century. Best to keep wedding under 5K.. you don't have to feed those people. It's just a ceremony. The latest trend is having a 'location' wedding.. That one is a beauty. Cost is over 50K. CRAZY

I've been married 35 years. I regret having a big fat Greek wedding! I could have used the cash many times!

The advice the adviser gave was stupid too. She should've said "No, don't take out any loans or use your savings. Instead, keep it low key and on budget"

Then why get married, when you know it smells like divorce?

Everything about this is absolutely ridiculous, especially when we know that most marriages in the US end in divorce within a few years.
