I’m eloping for my ceremony this summer, I will only be brining a very small group of people (10-20) but I want a traditional reception that’s delayed a week or so. I’m not sure how we should do the reception, should I still show up in my wedding dress, would it be weird to do cake and toasts since it has been delayed?? Or should I just do cake and toasts after my tiny ceremony just with my closest friends and family? Is it still appropriate to have a registry and first dances? It all feels a little bit off knowing most of the people who will be at my reception won’t see my ceremony.

We are considering eloping because we want the ceremony to be personal just us together, and also money, neither of us wants to spend a fortune on a traditional wedding.

We tried the engagement party but my family was still so nosy that they found out and tried to force it out of me. We were just looking forward to holding a party with everyone, but the wedding we really wanted private just for us. Now I am dreading my engagement party and my family doesn't support me at all. My spouse's family is so wonderful and supportive. We warned everyone we would elope but we are still getting treated badly!!

I appreciate this video because I've been very worried about the fact that a wedding doesn't really suit me personally.

For us it’s because we needed to get married for immigration reasons and lived abroad at the time, and also because we are a bit party shy and want it to be intimate. Our family is huge and lives abroad in two different continents… we just want to do a small party with the closest ones.

We're having a destination elopement in March and surprising everyone who doesn't know with our Save the Dates in April. We're having a reception in October in our hometown to celebrate, but it will be more of a traditional reception. You asked for reasons why those who are choosing to elope do so and for us it has a lot to do with our age. We're both 37 and most of my family members have passed, including my Dad. Additionally, this my fiancé's second marriage and it seems a bit silly to make a big deal out of things when the party will be more of his family and they've gone through all of it before. We're doing things in a way that honors what matters most to us- each other.

Nobody at the party got angry about being deceived?
