Thank you for sharing your story and how you addressed it! I feel like this must happen more than is publicized and you’re the only person I could find talking about it. Knowing how photographers handle things when they go wrong is as important as knowing what should be done when thing go well.
I feel your pain! I recently misplaced my only drive with all my best photos and no backups. Around the same time my computer also failed so I totally lost all my images. I stopped shooting for the past few months because I was so bummed but now I’m moving forward. I now understand how important it is to backup your work! Thanks for sharing your story, I’m sure many will be able to relate
There's ways to get those files back using 3rd party apps, I lost video and photos once but i retrieved the photos. Also drop box makes wonders 🙂
