Most to South Indians use banana leaf or another leaves that's used for weddings that's the authentic way food is served on special occasions. Even to this day I try to follow it even in US whenever Iv access to it. Banana leaves/ decorations out of coconut trees leaves n flowers is very common back in Kerala.

In Kerala all hindu weddings serve 300 to may be even 1000 people in banana leaf only. Invitarion ask to avoid gifts and there is no custom of return gifts. It will only be a lemon in some places

It was actual traditional in India. Nowadays it is happening only in villages because banana leaves and fresh flowers are easily available in village with reasonable price.
Very funny that u r converting our tradition into an "idea"
