for 40 lacs , you can buy 1 BHK in Bangalore; I would just suggest everyone to spend 10 (5+5) lacs combined and get married in a temple in front of Gods; use rest of the money in buying a flat
Can't believe this nonsense of "Mehndi" and "Sangeet" in a South Indian wedding. Heck, even the typical Maharashtrian wedding didn't have it in the past. Too much of no-so-good inspiration from "Bollywood".

interesting discussion. I'm not sure how I got here, though I watched it only from academic standpoint as I too grew up in coastal belt, studied in Surathkal in 80s. to me, it's just fascinating to observe how much marriage has changed. in my my days or marriage, I had not heard of or watched sangeeth or mehendi or DJ (I did not even know what it was, until someone younger rolled his eyes in utter disbelief and explained to me what it's, even though I lived in west for years) in any family marriage or friends marriages.
Tip No 1: keep an account of all the lavish spends, it is very useful during separations happening these days 😢

Catering cost could be reduced to 1.5 lakh if you hire chefs directly and supply them with grocery. For 600 ppl 1.5 lakh is sufficient.
