Why do you think your audience would want to know the details of your specific experience? It's just your experience. I'm not sure that I want to spend time on this information. Your presentation is not a TV show. I just want to listen to the message you deliver. It's controversial and depends on the audience. For example, scientists don't expect to listen to your stories.

Are these speeches at a party or social event? I've been in business for 44 years and don't think I've ever heard one of her 10 openings in a professional setting.

the problem with innovative ? it's transitory – by the time it appears on a YouTube video it's probably more stale than fresh, or bandwagony at best. I agree your examples of bad starts are all very bad and used frequently. But I would argue, as both a professional presenter and audience member, that the fake attempts at personalization are as off putting as the bad examples. Also please acknowledge that some people find the personalization a touch creepy. Perhaps best bet is to walk to the mic with a very silly walk and start by asking "any Flying Circus fans in the room ?" OR start by thanking gravity and the company's compulsory attendance policy. Anything other than the list of 10 here unless you Steven Wright them and say "I will never forget the time I …… Oh wait that was someone else.

I disagree. It's always been more about substance than flair. These glib talking points don't fetch you much beyond a few applause and admirations but only temporarily. People at large appreciate doers, not talkers. Don't forget – empty vessels make the most noise.

Completely disagree Poopypants or Poopypanties in this case. You should always say "good morning", good afternoon etc. It is polite and it takes less than two seconds. Good manners are the hallmark of a good upbringing.

You can alternatively start with "good morning" then follows up with these sentences that will act as a hook to catch the audience attention but over using that will likely make you look as a mountebank who's got the chutzpah. Use a hook but not a net
