I agree with everything spelled out in this video, but in 20 years playing public gigs, I have never had a venue rep actually follow through and sign a contract. Private events, sure. Festival organizers, yep- and provide me with their contract too. I invite any manager or rep involved in this agreement to collaborate and explain any points they want the contract to cover, but by and large, most venue managers just find ways to avoid signing anything I present, or sometimes just outright scoff because it seems everyone local is accustomed to verbal agreements. I make it clear that itβs just as much for their benefit too and so we both know going into an event what to expect from each other. Itβs like they say about casinos: the house always wins
