People already have so much to deal with in a wedding asking them so many things can surely walk them away from you . i understand this is an important event for the couple and needs to be perfect, but it seems like it's an over do of this.

single af is slow and face af is one of the best features of the milc cameras over dslr-s. When the camera choose the wrong face, just touch the screen. That is still faster then selecting focus with a joystic all the time…

Focusing and recomposing (with previously defined exposure) is what I usually do for ceremonies.
Good content and interesting video.

Thank you ! I’ve done one wedding and I didn’t even get people centre in the picture due to nerves or not asking for a list of shots so it was a shambles and I sweating so bad ! But single person modelling I’m fine at and enjoy so much !! I have another wedding in November !! And never even used my flash before on my Sony Aiii

This video is recommended the day after a wedding I attended as a family member but still took my camera so I can take unofficial photos where I mostly focused on my aunts, uncles, their kids bc the photographer won’t really include them except for one photo. I wanted to do as many candid shots myself bc, to me at least, they’re always better when you snap a photo of someone who isn’t expecting to be photographed. My cousin was one of the groomsmen and at one point the guys lit up their cigars and I caught him as he was facing sideways letting the smoke out. He then turned forward and saw me, smiled and pointed the cigar to me to which I snapped another photo. One thing the photographers missed one garbage. There was a clear bag in front of the groomsmen and it was reflecting the light so I had to say something. I would add this though: remove objects that should not be there, like drinks, extra chairs, even kids that run around should be prevented from running around behind the couple if the space is there.

Extra batteries and cards. Last thing you want is a dead battery or full cards.

It's love to see the shot list you send your couple. This way i can have a guide to build my own. I've never seen one as detailed as you described

Shot my first wedding on Monday. Your videos helped so much so thank you ❤ lots of valuable lessons learned from taking it on. Is there anyone here who suffers from FND? or facial weakness? Mine really flared up during the ceremony leaving me unable to use the viewfinder at all

Thanks John for this informative video! I'm being asked by friends to make photos for their wedding day. I must admid I'm not used to do something like this. I own a Nikon D750 but also an Olympus E-M1 mrk II with a fantastic IBIS, specially in low light very handy. One question comes up: do you set the camera on auto ISO or do you adjust it manually? Hope to hear from you soon.

I cringe when i see a wedding photographer shooting the entire event on a zoom lens. These paying customers deserve better. Keep your 70-200 for some b-roll video or your next basketball game. Respect your clients enough to bring proper glass to a wedding.

I'm going to be shooting my cousin's wedding this weekend so excited and nervous I've been doing family get togethers and doing photography using different camera filters with my daughter and they always come out great. A wedding is on another level thank you so much for the tips! Love your videos

Great video. Some thoughts : 1) it took me nearly 10 years before I dared to do a wedding. I did amateur models and concerts before. 2) depth of field doesn't only depend on the f-number but also on the distance to the subject, the focal length etc. I'd say f 5.6 is the best on a 50 mm lens for outdoor group shots 3) if you choose manual for shutter speed, aperture, iso … about 90% of your shots will be over/underexposed. there is nothing wrong in using Av or Tv and over/underexpose when needed
